New Bristol Sinfonia is one of Bristol's premier orchestras, comprising a mixture of professional musicians and talented amateurs working with professional conductor, Jonathan Lo.
The orchestra is excited to be performing their first concert for a year and a half with a live audience on Saturday  9 October, 7.30pm. They will be performing at Redland Hall, a purpose-built concert hall at Redmaids’ School where the orchestra are thrilled to be using their Steinway piano to perform Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major. Soloist for the evening is pianist Dominic Piers-Smith who,  as well as being a concert pianist, has a full-time job designing Formula One racing cars!
The evening programme includes music from Dukas - Fanfare for La Pèri, Ravel - Piano Concerto in G and Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5.
Conductor Jonathan Lo said: “Any conductor would be lucky to work with an orchestra such as New Bristol Sinfonia. It is, without doubt, one of the finest amateur orchestras in the country. Many members of the orchestra are professional musicians, and of those who have other day jobs outside of music, many were professional musicians, or went to music college, or are recent music graduates - indeed, in this latter category, several previous members have gone on to have successful careers with major orchestras around the world. An orchestra of such calibre, whose members meet purely for the love of music and the enjoyment of performing for its audience, is a rare and unique breed indeed.
“We are incredibly excited to be playing at Redland Hall. The music of Ravel and Shostakovich will provide a wonderful contrast to experience the full range of acoustic possibilities the hall has to provide. I hope our first venture there will also introduce this precious orchestra to a new audience in Bristol, as well as paving the way for collaboration between NBS and any local artists and organisations.”
