Keep safe on Remembrance Sunday
FATHER Andre Hart has released a message about The Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Westbury-on-Trym Village Remembrance Sunday, 8th November 2020.
"It is with regret that I need to inform everyone who normally attends that we cannot hold our usual parade as we have done for many years.
"With the numbers that we usually have, we cannot manage the risks that will clearly be present in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. So, we have come to the conclusion that we must ask everyone please do not come to the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday but remain in your church or at home for the act of remembrance, either in church or on television from London. This will disappoint all of us I know, but we do not have any other alternative.
"There will however be an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial with six people only. This we can and must do. I know many will be tempted still to come but I do ask you not to.
"Our highest priority whilst this Act of Remembrance is done is to keep everyone safe. This cannot be done with the usual crowd gathered around the Memorial. I do encourage all who would like to place a wreath, to do so in their own time later in the day. There will also be a gathering of a few of us on the 11th of November on the roundabout, but again, please, keep to the two metre distance rule and wear a mask to protect others. Thank you very much."
