Don’t dump your goldfish in the pond Mrs Worthington!
A new and vigilant Park Keeper - Mr Heron - is keeping a close eye on the pond in Canford Park and he is making sure that any goldfish, unfortunate enough to be dumped in there by their owners, do not stay for very long!
Hilary Long, Chair of the Westbury-on-Trym Society says: “Seriously, we do want to warn everyone that the pond in our future ‘Paradise Garden’ in Canford Park is not a safe home for your unwanted fish, or any other rubbish you may wish to get rid of. The water can easily become stagnant, worsened by alien deposits and the pond is difficult to clean out because there is no flow through.
“People have also asked why the fountain is not working. It has apparently been disconnected from the water supply but the reason is not yet clear. As part of the restoration project for the garden, we shall be seeking to have this remedied, but this may involve considerable fund raising later on.
“I am delighted to report that as a result of the articles printed in the Voice in June and July, we now have a team of at least twelve people who have volunteered to help with the sunken garden restoration and its future maintenance. I have had a preliminary discussion with the Parks department and our group will be meeting in early September to make a regular work plan. If you would like to join us please contact the Westbury Society website or call 962 2795.”
